Sulcorebutia tiraquensis var. oenantha
Sulcorebutia tiraquensis v. oenantha wurde 1971 von Walter Rausch als S. oenantha (R465) beschrieben. Drei Jahre später (Rausch 1974) beschrieb er S. pampagrandensis (R466). Die Typfundorte der beiden Taxa liegen knapp 10 km auseinander, beide an der Straße, die bei Epizana von der Straße Cochabamba – Sta. Cruz nach Süden abzweigt und letzten Endes nach Sucre führt. Augustin & Gertel (Augustin et al. 2000) stellten S. pampagrandensis als Varietät zu S. oenantha. Gertel & de Vries (2007) gingen noch einen Schritt weiter und beförderten S. pampagrandensis in die Synonymie der neu aufgestellten S. tiraquensis v. oenantha.

S. oenantha im Sinne von Rausch sind kräftig strohfarben bedornte, dunkelrot blühende Sulcorebutien, die lt. Rausch eine gewisse Ähnlichkeit mit Weingartien haben. Der Name „oenantha“ bedeutet „weinrot“ und wurde deswegen gewählt, weil die Blütenfarbe Rausch an einen kräftigen Rotwein erinnerte.

Tatsächlich sind die Vermehrungen von Rauschs R465 sehr einheitlich und entsprechen der oben gegebenen Kurzbeschreibung. Ich habe verschiedene Pflanzen mit dieser Feldnummer in meiner Sammlung und war bisher noch nicht in der Lage endgültig zu entscheiden, ob es sich tatsächlich um mehrere Klone handelt.

Ich erinnere mich noch genau an einen Besuch von Walter Rausch in Ingelheim. Ich zeigte ihm meine G73 und G107. Die Erstere kommt von Typstandort, die Zweite von etwa 1,5 km weiter nördlich. Zuerst bestätigte Rausch, ja, das sei genau seine „oenantha“. Als ich ihm dann aber auch die anderen Formen zeigte, die wir gefunden hatten, wurde er sehr nachdenklich und meinte, nein, solche Pflanzen hätte er dort nicht gesehen.

Was lernen wir daraus? Eine so variable Gattung und speziell Populationen mit einer so großen Variationsbreite kann man nur einschätzen, wenn man sie intensiv studiert und versucht, die Grenzen auszuloten. Wie ich später noch bei S. tiraquensis v. totorensis ausführen werde, hilft es wenig zur Beurteilung einer Art oder Varietät, wenn man eine Pflanze kennt. Man muss versuchen, das ganze mögliche Umfeld zu erfassen. Erst dann kann man einschätzen, wo ein Taxon endet und vielleicht ein anderes beginnt.

Wie die oben gezeigten Pflanzen und auch ein Teil der weiter unten abgebildeten zeigen, sehen tatsächlich viele S. tiraquensis v. oenantha so aus, wie das Rausch beschrieben hat. Es gibt aber auch welche, die völlig anders aussehen und doch zu dieser Varietät zu rechnen sind.

Dieser schöne, schwarzdornige Klon existiert leider nicht mehr. Vielleicht gelingt es mir irgendwann aus Samen Ersatz zu erhalten.

Wie schon oben kurz vermerkt, liegen die meisten Fundorte von S. tiraquensis v. oenantha in der Nähe der Straße Epizana – Totora – Aiquile – Sucre, im Wesentlichen in der näheren Umgebung von Totora.

G73 und G73a kommen vom Typstandort, der sich beim Fußballplatz des Dorfes Chijmuri, einige Kilometer südlich von Totora befindet. G107 fanden wir, als wir südlich von Totora nach Mizque fahren wollten, gleich abseits der Straße.

Auch östlich von Totora, bei der Ortschaft Lagunillas, kann man Formen von S. tiraquensis v. oenantha finden. Diese Pflanzen sind am Standort winzig klein, in der Trockenzeit völlig ins Erdreich eingezogen und somit ohne Blüten kaum zu finden.

Kulturpflanzen entwickeln sich allerdings zügig zu ansehnlichen Pflanzen, die in erster Linie durch ihre schönen roten Blüten hervorstechen.

Sulcorebutia tiraquensis var. oenantha R466 (pampagrandensis)
Schon in der Einleitung wurde erwähnt, dass Rauschs S. pampagrandensis ebenfalls hierher gehört. Der wesentliche Unterschied ist die Farbe der Blüte, die bei diesen etwas weiter südlich vorkommenden Pflanzen einheitlich hell violett bis violettrosa ist. Die Blüten sind meist auch etwas größer als die ihrer rotblütigen nördlicheren Nachbarn

Die morphologische Variationsbreite der Sulcorebutien aus der Umgebung von Rancho Pampa Grande ist enorm. Rausch stellte schon im Begleittext zur Erstbeschreibung fest, dass es kaum möglich sei, zwei völlig gleiche Pflanzen zu finden. Dem kann ich aus eigener Ansicht nur zustimmen.

Wollte man sich ketzerisch äußern – aber man erkennt das auch an den hier abgebildeten Pflanzen – könnte man sagen, um Pampa Grande herum findet man nahezu alles, was S. tiraquensis im weiteren Sinn zu bieten hat

Viele reden von Hybriden. Mir persönlich gefällt dieser Begriff im Zusammenhang mit natürlicherweise so variablen Pflanzen nicht, wie wir sie an zahllosen Standorten im gesamten Vorkommensbereich von Sulcorebutia kennen. Es sei denn, man sieht die gesamte Gattung als hybrid an, was aber meines Wissens molekularbiologisch noch nicht bewiesen ist. Man hört auch immer wieder, dass Sulcorebutien wohl weitgehend polyploid, meinetwegen auch allopolyploid seien. Soweit ich weiß, hat das noch niemand genau untersucht (ich lasse mich gerne eines Besseren belehren).

Ich kann mit Begriffen wie Variationsbreite, Plastizität und dem Wissen, dass sich viele Teile der Gattung Sulcorebutia in einer rasanten Entwicklung befinden, sehr gut leben. Ich stehe zwar auch oft vor einem Rätsel, wenn ich zwei Extrempflanzen einer Population sehe. Geht man allerdings tiefer in die Materie und betrachtet die gesamte Variationsbreite und sieht alle Zwischen– und Übergangsformen, ergibt sich ein vollständiges und meist auch plausibles Bild.
